Player-boss Johnny McGough smashed in a hat-trick as he put in a rare appearance for his depleted West Pier Reserves side who won 6-1 at Ayton Reserves.

Veteran stand-in striker McGough bagged an early brace to hand his side a 2-0 lead.

They were 3-0 up at the break, Jason Prosser also scoring.

Dave Phillips scored for Ayton after good work from Richard Howes down their right flank to make it 3-1, but Pier roared back to regain control.

Their win was wrapped up by a Mikey Anderson strike, McGough's third which found the net via a deflection, and a Dave Crawford goal.

Ayton were reduced to eight men after three of their players were sent off.

Nicko Dunn and Luke Dunn were sent off for using foul and abusive language, while Howes saw red after a late challenge.

Jack Brown and Brad Atkinson both shone for Pier, while 37-year-old stand-in striker McGough sealed the man of the match honours.
