Following is advice on various aspects if you or anyone you know has suffered from the recent floods.

Preparing for a flood




Council tax
As a result of flooding, many East Riding residents have had to leave their homes. In these circumstances, residents can apply for a council tax exemption..

Anyone wishing to claim an exemption can telephone billing and collection on (01482) 394747 or call into their local customer service centre.

Collection of damaged household property
More than 2,500 properties have been affected by storm damage and flooding in the East Riding.

The council has now arranged free bulky collections for more than 760 properties and has collected more than 164 tonnes of items.
Residents who would like damaged property to be collected should call the Floodline on (01482) 393399.

Humanitarian aid
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is working closely with ERVAS (East Riding Voluntary Action Services) to provide help to East Riding residents affected by the flooding including those without insurance cover. Any residents affected by the flooding requiring assistance should contact ERVAS on (01482) 871077.

Financial assistance
Support from Crisis Loans and the Department of Work and Pensions Social Fund can be applied for by contacting the Floodline on (01482) 393399. Community Care Grants may be available to victims of flooding from the national Social Fund.
Contact may be made direct to the Social Fund Helpline on telephone 0845 6088671 for help and advice.

Farmers' hardship fund
The ARC-Addington Fund is administering a hardship fund which provides a package of pastoral support and hardship payments to any farmers who have been adversely affected by the recent floods.

Only small hardship payments of up to £250 will be available to those in genuine hardship situations and the fund emphasises this should not be looked upon as a compensation scheme.

Farmers can ring the helpline number on 07002 326 326 to apply.
