PUMPS to help prevent flood damage could be on their way to Driffield after councillors have agreed to submit a bid to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council which has made a maximum of £5,000 available to parishes hit by flooding last year.
Driffield Town Council has agreed to ask for six pumps.

Clerk to the council, Claire Binnington, said: "A pump would be ideal for houses that would be flooded and they can be left unattended."

Councillors unanimously agreed to submit a bid to cover the cost of two large pumps, capable of sucking up large pieces of debris of up to two inches in diameter, and four small pumps which could be left unattended in homes as and when required.

Councillor Steve Poessl said: "Hopefully they can help alleviate some of the damage and for the fire service to be able to use them will be a big help. We may as well get as many as we possibly can and, having said that, if we have more than we require we can always hire them out to other parishes that are suffering."
