AN accountancy manager from Brandesburton has been elected as president of a prestigious accountancy society.
John Butler, who grew up in the village, has been elected president of the York Society of Chartered Accountants.

He hopes to use his year in office to promote the work which chartered accountants can do for businesses.

He said: "I am honoured
to be taking over as president of the York Society and hope to promote the benefits that chartered accountants bring to businesses in and around the York area."

Mr Butler, a manager specialising in personal and corporate recovery and insolvency work at Tenon Group, takes over the position from Peter Atkinson of York.

A keen rugby and cricket player, Mr Butler still resides in Brandesburton and is also a partner in his family farming business.
He was educated at Hymers College in Hull before attending Nottingham University from where he graduated with a BA honours degree in economics.

After university, John joined Kroll in Leeds before moving in 2007 to the York offices of Tenon Recovery who provide accounting and business advice to entrepreneurs and owner-managed and private businesses.
Peter Atkinson said that he had found his year of office extremely enjoyable.
