BEVERLEY-based children's charity Real Aid has opened its first ever shop in its home town.
The premises opened on Saturday June 14 at 12 Dyer Lane, where Colin Raine, director for Real Aid, welcomed the first customers.
He said: "It was wonderful to see so many people visit the shop and we are overwhelmed by the interest, support and encouragement for the work of the charity."
Real Aid, which already has shops in Bridlington, Driffield, Hornsea, Hessle and Newland Avenue in Hull, had been hoping to open one in Beverley for some time.
The charity's head office and aid supply centre have been based in Beverley since 2001. Funds raised from the shop will enable increasing quantities of aid to be sent to projects in eastern Europe and Africa.
Real Aid helps children suffering from sickness, need, hardship or distress as a result of famine, drought, flood, war or any other calamity.
Donations of quality clothing, shoes, handbags, bric-a-brac, jewellery, toys, books, videos, CDs and other small household items (not electrical) are welcome at any of the charity's shops, or at its head office at Unit 6b, Beverley Business Park, Oldbeck Road, Beverley. Real Aid can also raise funds by recycling mobile phones, printer cartridges, stamps and foreign coins and notes.
