A FUND raising appeal for Beverley Minster's new £40,000 Steinway piano will move closer to its target with a concert tomorrow night (Saturday June 28).
The appeal needs a further £13,000 to pay for the piano and long-established Hull and East Yorkshire choir the Melsa Consort will boost the fund raising efforts by performing Music For A Summer's Evening in the Minster, from 7.30pm.

Conducted by David Wigley, the Consort specialises in unaccompanied singing and has built up a loyal following.

The concert will also include organist Alan Spedding, who has broadcast many times on TV and radio and has several CDs to his name.

Minster events co-ordinator Carol Parkinson said the nine-foot Steinway grand was chosen specifically to suit the Minster's complex acoustics.

"It's enabling us to expand our concert repertoire as well as supporting our established programme," she explained. "The Friends of Beverley Minster donated £20,000 for the piano and lent us the other £20,000 needed to buy it and Saturday's event is the latest of a series of fund raising events."

Tickets for the concert cost £7, and include light refreshments.
