BEVERLEY Art Gallery is to host an exhibition by the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists.

Paper tends to be something taken for granted in our daily lives - whether we are mopping up kitchen spills, opening blinds or printing documents.

The IAPMA artists take this everyday material and use it as a medium for making art.

The show i
s rich and varied - there are figurative sculptures, abstract forms, wall hangings and suspended objects.

Some of the artists use ordinary machine-made paper to produce extraordinary works of art. Some use paper that they have made themselves. Some use the pulp or plant fibre that is at the start of the papermaking process.

The exhibition has been touring around the country, most recently showing at the Piece Hall, Halifax, where it was a great success.

The exhibition will run at Beverley Art Gallery from May 17 to June 28.
Meanwhile, a drop-in origami workshop will be held at the art gallery on Saturday, May 31 (10am to 3pm).

Origami is the ancient craft of paper folding and a fascinating mixture of art and geometry.

Nick Holmes, a member of the British Origami Society, will be in the gallery to demonstrate his skills and encourage visitors to have a go themselves.

Beverley Art Gallery is in the Treasure House building which is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9.30am - 5pm; Tuesday and Thursday 9.30am - 8pm; Saturday 9am - 4pm; closed Sunday. Refreshments are available.
