Beverley's third Puppet Festival takes place from July 4 to 6, when 17 puppet theatre companies will be taking part.
Building on previous puppet festivals, organisers Beverley Arts Trust hope that this biennial event will have something for everyone.

While classic tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Billy Goats Gruff and the Elves and The Shoemaker cater for the very young, there are also evening shows for adults and over 12s, including The Canterbury Tales, Houdini’s Suitcase and The Vertigo of Sheep.

Demonstrating the diverse possibilities of puppetry are shadow theatre in Alice and The White Rabbit, and table top theatre with cleverly crafted puppets in The Magnificent Flying Machine.

There will also be free shows outdoors from Robin Hood to Dr Slythe’s Mechanical Circus and two styles of Punch and Judy.

Other free activities will include drop-in puppet making workshops at the Friary, and a festival party in the Friary marquee.

Venues for festival events are Beverley Memorial Hall, the Friary, Beverley Leisure Centre and Minster School. Tickets from Beverley Tourist Information tel (01482) 391672, and more info on www.beverleyarts.co.uk.
