Violinists in training for a speedy finale
BEVERLEY musician Patricia Mitchell will lead Hull Philharmonic Orchestra's violinists in two of music's fastest movements at the final concert of the season at Hull City Hall tomorrow (Saturday).
Playing two of the most loved pieces of classical music, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky's Symphony Number 4, they have been in training to ensure that their stamina and technique will meet the demands of the two composers.
They estimate that in the famously fast last movement of the violin concerto and the finale of the Tchaikovsk symphony they will each play a total of 2,000 notes in the space of 12 minutes.
Patricia Mtchell, the orchestra leader, said: "We are preparing ourselves for a thrilling ride, but it is also an exercise in control as we must keep together and support our international soloist as sensitively as possible."
Tickets are available from £5 to £15 at the City Hall Box Office on tel (01482) 226655.
