HEAVY rain always makes great weather for ducks and this weekend was no exception. Crowds of people braved a torrential down pour on Sunday afternoon to watch the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust summer duck race take place along Driffield Beck.
Spectators young and old donned their raincoats and grabbed their umbrellas to watch more than 240 plastic ducks pass Eastgate car park.
Three races were held during the event, with two ducks battling it out in a closely contested final with the top prize of £30 going to M Collins, of Driffield.

Joint second place prizes went to S Noble, of Driffield, and P Lawty, of Langtoft, while the consolation prize of £5 went to J Moore, of Bridlington.

Race organiser David Woodmansey said: "I am very pleased that the summer duck race was again well supported with 243 ducks racing.
"As always this event cannot take place without the support of a team of volunteers who either helped on the day or sold ducks in advance of the event. I would therefore like to thank Judy English, Amanda and Fran Jones and Paul Medforth for their support.

"I would also like to thank everyone who bought ducks and attended the event," he added.

Mr Woodmansey said plans are well under way for the traditional New Years Day duck race with the first race scheduled to start at 2pm.

For further information about this event or the work of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust please contact David Woodmansey on tel (01377) 267694 after 6pm.
