A BRAVE fundraiser has had her head shaved for charity in honour of a close friend currently battling leukaemia.
Victoria-Ann Jackson, of The Meadows, Leven raised more than £1,000 at the charity head shave held at Hainsworth Park Golf Club, Brandesburton and despite admitting to being a bit apprehensive on the day she has vowed to do it all over again if it means helping people who are battling the illness.

The chance to shave off Miss Jackson's locks was auctioned off as part of the fundraiser with Chris Hill putting in the winning bid of £71.

The grand total raised on the night was £1,300, of which £1,000 will go to Leukaemia Research while the remaining funds will go to the ward at Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham where close friend Mark Jefferson is currently undergoing his third dose of chemotherapy.

Miss Jackson, 28, has known Mr Jefferson for most of her life, having been bridesmaid at his wedding aged 11.

She said the response to her new hair-do has been really positive and she has been amazed at the level of support so far.

"I went out in Beverley on Saturday night and I had a T-shirt with 'I had my head shaved today for Leukaemia Research'. I got a well done and a shake of the hand off someone and one lady donated some money," Miss Jackson said.

Her boyfriend, Phill Merrylls, has also given the new hairstyle the thumbs-up.

Miss Jackson added: "He says 'my gorgeous bald girlfriend'. He likes it."

Langtoft father-of-three Mr Jefferson, 42, has been campaigning to raise awareness of the need for more bone marrow donors since he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in August.

His friends and family have been busy fundraising ever since and trying to encourage as many people as possible to join The Anthony Nolan Trust's bone marrow register.

Miss Jackson would like to thank all the customers at her place of work, Charter's Butchers in Brandesburton, for their generous donations.
