DRIFFIELD'S Talking Newspaper has a new volunteer newsreader - thanks to an appeal in the Driffield Times series of newspapers.
Organisers of the audio magazine asked us to run an appeal for new members and revealed this week that the incentive had proved a success, with one volunteer stepping forward.

But more help is still needed.

So, if you like the sound of your own
voice here is an opportunity to put it to good use.

If you can read clearly, and with interest and expression, you are needed to help a local charity read the news.

Officials of Driffield and District Talking Newspaper for the blind and partially sighted are appealing for help to record audio CDs.

Each week volunteers read selected news from the Driffield Times and Driffield Post, followed by an audio magazine entitled Whatever Next, which contains a variety of items taken from various publications, including quizzes, book extracts, nostalgia, poetry and local articles.

This is then posted out to blind and partially-sighted people in the area.

Magazine editor, Clare Allan, said: "Listeners have told us that the Talking Newspaper is a real lifeline for them.

"Loss of their sight often makes people feel cut off from what's going on locally, and so our service is important to them.

"And for us it's a really enjoyable thing to be involved with.
"We have a very friendly team."

No previous broadcasting experience is necessary, and you would only be needed about every three weeks.

Recordings are on Thursday nights from 6.30pm to about 8.30pm.
For more information about the voluntary position telephone (01262) 420591.
