THOUSANDS of music lovers from all corners of the UK descended on Driffield over the weekend making the town's fourth annual folk festival bigger and better than ever.
Festival organiser, Margie MacNaught, said the free music event had doubled in size since last year with the venues being packed to capacity on both the Friday and Saturday.
Margie said: "It has been absolutely fantastic. It has doubled in size and we even had a Peruvian band turn up on the Friday night.
"Thousands of people turned out for it this year. The Blue Bell was packed to capacity both nights and The Tiger was turning people away because we couldn't fit any more people in. It was definitely the biggest year yet. People travelled from Newcastle and we had a couple from Scotland," Margie added.
Peruvian band Apu performed at the festival as a last minute booking. They were in the area when they heard about the event and wanted to experience Driffield's ever expanding live music scene.
The festival featured live sets from a range of artists including singer-songwriter Edwina Hayes, three-piece Bridlington band The Alley Cats, and multi-instrumentalist Gibby MacNaught, the brother of festival organiser Margie.
Performances were staged on the Friday night and all day Saturday at The Blue Bell, Riverhead, and The Tiger, Market Place, while crowds also gathered in Driffield Market Place for live open air performances.
"I was ecstatic over the weekend and we are already getting plans together for next year. It will be held over the August Bank Holiday weekend again and we are planning to add another venue to expand the festival," Margie added.
Youngsters also got in on the act by taking part in a children's talent competition at The Blue Bell. Ellie Adenall won the Mima Mackinnon Wright Shield after performing a song and dance routine from High School Musical.
Heather Cook, Chloe Robinson and Hazel Cook were awarded second place for a dance routine while 10-year-old Billy Rogers won third prize with his comedy routine.
Margie would like to thank Maxine Sach of the Blue Bell and her staff for all their help and support as well as Bill, Lou and all the staff at The Tiger for their hard work.
"I would like to thank all the members of the committee for their commitment throughout the year in fundraising to make this possible and to all the artists that turned up and the people that turned up to play on the stage," Margie added.
Margie would also like to say a special thank to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council for a grant of £500 which helped fund this year's event.
