AN overwhelming number of people want weekly green bin rubbish bin collections to remain as they are.
Up to 6,000 residents have already responded to an East Riding of Yorkshire Council kerbside waste and recycling consultation, with a massive 67 per cent voting to keep weekly collections of the green bins for general household rubbish.
The consul
tation was launched on June 3 and runs until July 31. Residents can register their views by visiting the Have Your Say website at www.eastriding.gov.uk/consult or by clicking on Waste Consultations on
www.target45plus.org.
The council has released details of four options but with a recommendation attached to option three - the one winning in the voting poll.
Option one proposes no change to the current service based on the green bin for non-recyclable wastes and the blue bin for paper, plastic bottles and cans.
Option two is based on the current green and blue bins but with the addition of a brown bin for garden waste.
Option three provides residents with a weekly collection of the green bin, a fortnightly collection of the blue bin with cardboard added, and a fortnightly collection of garden waste in the brown bin.
Option four would establish fortnightly collections of all three bins.
The council is encouraging residents to recycle and compost 45 per cent of their waste by 2010. But, in line with Government targets, it aims to make it possible for every household to recycle and compost 50pc of household waste by 2020.
