THREE young dancers from the Driffield area are among 100 budding stars preparing to perform Sleeping Beauty with the English Youth Ballet at the Grand Opera House in York.

Emilie Calvert, 13, Amelia Lawrence, 10, and Sally Waine, nine, were chosen after a competitive audition attended by more than 200 hopefuls.

Now rehearsals are under way at All Saints RC School, York, where the youngsters will learn under the ex
pertise of Janet Lewis, director of the English Youth Ballet, Dominic Marshall, assistant director, and principal dancers Julianne Rice Oxley, Emma Lister, Alex Newton, Kasper Cornish and Matthew Allan.

The young dancers are being put through their paces over a period of 10 days (weekends and half term) - six hours a day.

By the beginning of June the sumptuous production with more than 276 costumes will be ready with Emilie, Amelia and Sally complementing the company in the corps de ballet and soloist parts.

Emilie attends Driffield School and the Collette Tyler School while Amelia and Sally both attend Lyndhurst School and are students at Kirkham Henry Performing Arts.

Performances of Sleeping Beauty will be on Friday June 6 at 7.30pm and on Saturday June 7 (2.30pm and 7.30pm). To book tickets, tel the Grand Opera House box office on 0844 847 2322.
