Great Driffield's showdance will depend
On rowdy crowds with brass to spend
On entrance fees, which rise in spate
To swell rich takings at their gate
Vast rustic hordes in four-by-fours
Queue, up then firmly slam steel doors
Or limousines of rainbow hue
Directed by brave souls in blue
Smart omnibuses ebb and flow
In hourly waves, splashed by God's breeze
Like dancers, prancing quick, quick slow
Or swarms of bombinating bees
Showstopping chariots crawl around
An overtrodden, claggy ground
Malodorous with rank equine whiff
Proud riders, drifting into Driff
From stables tabled far away
On Greater Driffield's greatest day!

Paul Jackson, of Briar Garth,
Driffield
