THE letter from Dr Geoffrey Mitchell regarding the development of a Foundation Trust in Hull in the Driffield Post of August 15, is worthy of our interest and support.
This development, if or when it takes place, will affect all of us living in this area as the Hull Hospitals Trust provides acute services to the East Riding of Yorkshire.
There is no good evidence at the moment that the Foundation Trusts already
in place have delivered superior service to patients.
We, therefore, need to know the advantages and disadvantages of such a change.
The government's pressure to establish Foundation Trusts has been called Privatisation by Stealth.
These trusts will be independent of government and free to borrow money on the open market and purchase services from other trusts and the private sector.
This is a conern because expensive and uneconomic services such as care for the elderly and the chronically ill, podiatry and audiology may be financialy unattractive and, therefore, may not have the investment they need.
A consultation meeting is to be held at Driffield Leisure Centre, Manorfield Road, on Friday September 5 at 6.30pm. It is important that as many people as possible attend and ask pertinent questions about these proposed changes.
