A man is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was injured as he tried to stop the suspect driving a stolen minibus in Beverley.
The man was seen driving the 24-seat white Mercedes mini-bus in a "dangerous and reckless" manner after the vehicle was reported stolen from the West Yorkshire area.

Police asked the driver to stop on two occasions but he refused and left one offi
cer with injuries to his nose and face.

The bus was eventually stopped in the Westwood area when officers deployed a stinger device.

Police quickly surrounded the bus and the man was forcefully arrested for attempted murder of a police officer.

He was in custody tonight being questioned by police.

A Humberside Police chief said it was "a miracle" that no-one was killed during the incident.

Chief Superintendent Paul Davison said: "The standard of driving encountered by officers today was extremely dangerous and the suspect was very determined to evade police.

"Driving of this type in such a large vehicle can be more lethal than carrying a weapon and it is a miracle that no members of the public or police officers were killed or seriously injured."

Humberside Police are urgently appealing for anyone who saw the manner in which the vehicle was being driven before it was stopped to contact them on 0845 6060222.
