SUPPORTERS of the campaign to secure new bells for Nafferton's parish church have helped to push the total raised through the £9,000 barrier.
The milestone was reached at a coffee morning on Saturday, where a young villager received the prize from his winning entry into a prize draw held in aid of the appeal.
Jacob Howard was presented with the prize painting of the village’s Mere by local artist Hector Fraser at the event held at the home of committee members Leslie and Margaret Senior on New Road.
Mrs Senior told the Driffield Times that £275 was raised at the coffee morning.
A further £200 was raised through the draw to win the painting, which was staged at the village’s Londis shop.
The money raised has now taken the total collected for the new bells at All Saints’ Church more than £9,000/
Mrs Senior said: “I have been absolutely thrilled with the support we have had. We never thought we would be able to raise money like this.”
Further fundraising events are also being planned by the committee.
A sequence dance will take place at the Driffield Community Centre on Thursday October 2. Following on from that a craft fair is to be held at the village hall on Saturday October 18.
A flower festival is also being planned for next year. Further details on all of the committee’s events will be announced nearer the time.
