Nafferton In Bloom officials have warned that plant displays could be removed from the railway station if incidents of vandalism do not stop.
Broken glass and cigarette ends were among the items found in their planters at the station, and the issue will be discussed at the group’s annual general meeting next week.

Group co-ordinator Richard Boddy told the annual parish meeting that they
were prepared to move the displays to other parts of the village if necessary.

“We are having a lot of trouble on the station. There is no way I will ask my committee members to go there and weed and water,” he said, before appealing to the public to help over the next few months building up to summer judging on July 21.

Particular help was needed with watering plants during the summer months, and the group would be happy to hear from anyone, particularly younger people, who could help.

Mr Boddy pointed out that the committee members were all over 60, and keen for younger people to get involved.

The meeting also heard that the group is aiming high in this year’s Yorkshire In Bloom competition, after securing a silver award in 2007.

Mr Boddy praised Nethergate residents Robin and Victoria Small, who put out displays last summer despite being forced to leave their home because of the floods.
