PLANS to site a caravan to provide staff accommodation for a Nafferton equine centre have been opposed by parish councillors.
The proposals for the Cromer Buildings site on Markman Lane were recommended for refusal by the authority at their recent monthly meeting.

The application, submitted by Mr C Booth, would allow for a change of use of part of the site to allow for a
caravan to be installed.

The meeting was told that the applicant considered the caravan was necessary to allow the centre manager to deal with visitors and emergencies on the site at any time.

But council chairman Andrew Oliver told members: “It just concerns me that it starts as one thing and it’s a slippery slope to something else.

Coun Ross Holmes said a precedent had been set previously to refuse permission for housing connected to village businesses until the enterprises had been fully established.

He argued there was no need for any housing on the site at the moment.

He said: “There’s plenty of houses in the village if they want somebody living close to hand.”

But Coun John Rudd questioned whether the business could be established if a form of housing was not allowed on the site.

The following planning applications were also considered:

l An application to build a dwelling following the demolition of the existing dwelling at Blakedale Farm, Scarborough Road was recommended for approval.

l An application to build a dwelling following the demolition of the existing dwelling and outbuildings at Rockingham, Newbridge Lane, was recommended for approval.

The meeting was also told that an application for alterations, extensions and a change of use for outbuildings at the Millingdale House residential home has been withdrawn.

But an application for a conservatory at The Cottage, 7 Station Road, has been approved. by East Riding planners.
