THE monthly meeting of Nafferton WI was held in the village hall on Wednesday June 11. There was a good attendance and we started with the singing of Jerusalem.
The president, Mrs Heather Winn, welcomed a visitor and also our federation advisor, Margaret Brooker, who later gave a talk on her work to help local WI groups.

r. Patterns for the Linus Blanket project were handed out.
The treasurer gave her report and the president was pleased to announce that the coffee morning, held by kind permission of Mrs Betty Jakins, had raised £205. She thanked Mrs Jakins and said there would be another coffee morning on September 6 in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice.
The summer outings, arranged by Mrs Bunty Appleby, were discussed. One is an afternoon outing to Wassand Hall and the August outing to Helmsley and then on to Nunnington Hall. All arrangements had been made with all members hoping for sunny weather.
Shirley Franklin, from Driffield WI, gave a beautifully detailed account of her visit to Liverpool as our delegate for the AGM.
She said the hall was very big, holding many people, but the speakers were so far away it was impossible to see them. Otherwise, the organisation was excellent.
The speaker, talking about his visit to Peru, was Ross Weekes. His talk was excellent and so were the accompanying slides.
Mr Weekes has helped to raise thousands of pounds for Christian Aid and the purpose of his visit was to see exactly how the donated money was used.
Help is given to farmers to aid them with their crops of sugar, avacados and elephant grass.
Further help and education is devoted to youngsters and the older ones were made leaders and were very proud to wear their well-earned badges.
He also said that the women of the community were encouraqged to make use of their skills of weaving the beautiful wool from the alpaca animals.
We were shown a few of these items and some were quite intricate. The women are now selling them to other countries, thus enabling them to be more independent. This was a most fascinating talk, beautifully presented.
Next meeting: Wednesday July 9 when the speaker will be Mr Duncan Lambert from Rix and Sons.
