PROPOSALS for a new fishing pond and timber cabins in Nafferton have been withdrawn, it has been revealed this week.
Widespread concerns had been expressed over the scheme for the site on Back Carr Lane, which would have allowed for five cabins and a second pond to be built.
A spokesman for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council told the Driffield Times that the
application, submitted by Mr Paul Thompson, had been withdrawn last week.
As previously reported, parish councillors had recommended refusal when they considered the plans last month.
They also said the application should be referred to the East Riding planning committee for a final ruling.
The council spokesman said that objections had also been received from a number of local residents, as well as statutory bodies who are consulted over planning applications.
She added that Humber Archaeology had recommended that a full assessment of the site should be carried out before the application was formally considered.
But the withdrawal of the scheme may well not be the end of the story, as it is understood planning officers are expecting alternative plans to be submitted for the site around the end of this year or early in 2009.
The spokesman said they expected there would be another application connected to the site 'in due course'.
