Senior Cup final

THIS final had to be moved to Burton Agnes when the original venue of Rotsea Lane was deemed unfit, and the first half between the division’s top two teams was very evenly balanced.

The deadlock was finally broken with ten minutes to go to half time when Nafferton captain Pete Savage was not closed down on the edge of the box and curled a mis-hit cross into the top corner.

No sooner had play restarted than Frodingham went to the other end and equalised, much to the dismay of the Nafferton management, but 1-1 at half time was a fair reflection of the balance of play.

Nafferton lined up for the second half with the now familiar back four of Henderson, Hook, Dowson and Schuller determined not to concede again and with the wind behind them, the midfield of Knaggs, Savage and Hamminga started to create more chances for the front three of Lakes, Pearson and Leech.

The lead was restored when man of the match Chris Henderson unleashed a shot from 25 yards which clattered the crossbar, and Leech was perfectly positioned for the easiest of tap-ins.

The lead was extended when Pearson was crudely brought down when clean through on goal and Savage converted the penalty and ‘Dangerous Dave’ Lakes completed the scoring.

Special mention to Frodingham who more than played their part in a very competitive game.

l Nafferton are sponsored by Tonks and fed by Paris at the Blue Bell.
