NAFFERTON residents and organisations have this week been urged to join in the fun and help to celebrate the tenth anniversary of a prominent village charity body.
Preparations are well underway for the event to mark the Nafferton Millennium Committee's 10th birthday, which is due to take place in September.
And committee secretary Sheila Cook said they hoped the event would bring the whole village community
together.
She said: "We just want people to come and have a good time."
The celebrations are set to take place on Saturday September 6 on the village primary school field and are expected to start in the late afternoon, before continuing into the evening.
No official title has yet been finalised for the event, though it is set to take inspiration from this summer's Olympic Games.
A planning meeting is set to take place next month and is open to anyone who is interested in helping to organise the festivities.
Representatives of all the village's clubs and societies are to be invited to the talks, which are scheduled to take place at the Methodist Schoolroom on Wednesday May 21 at 7.30pm.
But Mrs Cook said the committee was keen to hear from anyone with suggestions for attractions or stalls which could be held on the day.
She said: "We would like anybody with ideas to get involved."
And she added that they had already received a number of positive ideas from villagers.
"We have had some good positive suggestions and some really fun ideas from people", she said.
A similar event was hosted by the committee back in 2002, to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
And Mrs Cook said they were hoping this year's event would be similarly successful, though without the inclement weather conditions of six years ago.
She said: "We're hoping we'll have the weather but it didn't seem to dampen spirits last time."
Anyone who would like more information about the celebrations is asked to contact Mrs Cook on (01377) 254281.
