CUP Saturday at Allotment Lane turned out to be a good day for Driffield area clubs with Driffield EI deservedly picking up the Challenge Cup and Nafferton Rec collecting their third trophy of a memorable season with a win in the Arthur Saunderson Trophy final.
And it was a bad day too for the Yorkies of Bridlington, who were defeated in both finals.

Driffield Cobbler Premier champions Yorkies were unable to break down a staunch EI defence and lost out to a 55th minute Andy Stabler goal, while a goal in each half for Division One winners Nafferton was enough to see off the challenge of Yorkies Extra.

EI’s win meant they performed the considerable feat of retaining the cup they won in the closing minutes of extra time in last year’s final against close rivals Driffield Rangers.

But their win against Yorkies, who were confident of adding the Challenge Cup to their league title, was arguably the better performance, especially as Yorkies had won both league meetings between the clubs earlier in the season.
