Adam has moved up to the PFI ProKart series, after he took the Clubman’s championship title last year.

And he told Post Sport he was delighted with his start to the season which sees him lying fourth in the standings after two rounds.

He said: “I’m really pleased. There were six of us who were promoted. Five have been down at the other end of the grid.

“I’ve got my head down and worked my way to the top end of the grid.”

Each event in the nine round series incorporates three heats, then a final.

Adam recorded two fourths and a fifth place finish in the three heats of last Sunday’s second meeting of the season in Lincolnshire, before coming sixth in the final.

He also produced the fourth fastest single lap in the final, quicker than either of the first two drivers.

That came after he finished fourth in the final at the opening round, recovering after he was disqualified in one of the heats for his kart being marginally underweight.

And Adam said he was pleased to be competing at the front of the grid despite operating on much smaller resources than many of his rivals.

He said: “I’m more than pleased with my progress because I’m running on a very limited budget still, unlike most of the top competitors.

“I was running on old tyres from last season, and I’m racing a 2002 chassis, but still managed to keep up with the pace.

“So I’m very confident I can come home with better results in the next round.”

And, having exceeded his pre-season expectations, Adam has now set his sights on a high finish in the championship .

He said: “Hopefully, I can get into the top three, but who knows.”
