Nafferton Rec 1
Division One
On Tuesday night, Rose and Crown welcomed Division One champions Nafferton Rec to Allotment Lane for this Division One league match.
Crown, starting with 10 men, were caught flat with only three minutes on the
clock when a Nafferton forward put the ball under the body of stand-in goalkeeper Coleman to put the visitors ahead.
But Crown battled back immediately and Pinder levelled the scores on five minutes with a well taken goal.
The game remained even until Brooksby put relegation-threatened Crown ahead with a pin-point free-kick on 30 minutes.
The game became increasingly physical from this point and two Rec players received yellow cards before the half time whistle.
After ten minutes of the second half Brooksby floated in a corner which Collins headed past a stranded keeper to extend Crown’s lead to 3-1.
A third Nafferton player earned a yellow and shortly after Crown’s Collins received a red for retaliation and another Crown player also received a yellow card.
The game really warmed up and another Nafferton player joined the long list of bookings.
Finally, with only a minute left the Nafferton goalkeeper became the second red card for his side after falling out with his own players.
The game ended at 3-1 which considering Crown’s lowly position was a brilliant result for them.
Credit to all the Crown players for their guts and determination and also to the referee for controlling a very physical game. The referee awarded Brooksby man of the match but it could have gone to several players for their contribution.
Thanks to Crown’s sponsors S & S Site Services, Skelton Transport, Eastgate Self Drive, Sean, and Modular Sales of York.
