THERE has been mixed success so far in the Driffield Evening Cup for Driffield sides, with the Under 17s bowing out in their first round match against Staxton on Friday, and the AN XI coming through to an easy win over Cayton in Monday's first of the second round fixtures.
Staxton just got the better of the Under 17s, posting a total of 112-4 with Andy Dove (47) and Rob Pinder (29) getting the bulk of the runs. R Robinson was Driffield’s best bowler with 2-18.

In reply Driffield could only reach 99-7, T Chippendale making 32 and D Burdass 18. For Staxton M Dove (2-16) and C Stephenson (2-20) were the pick of the attack.

Heavy scoring was a feature of AN XI’s 154-4 score against Cayton, with an undefeated partnership of 93 between Ben Dobson (45no) and R Robinson (43no) leading the way. C Chapman also contributed well with 40.

Cayton were never in with a chance of reaching the Driffield total despite P Miller’s 36no, and Nicky Johnson’s 3-16 ensured they fell well short of their target on 111-8.
