North Ferriby United res 2
Humber Premier League
Hutton Cranswick United’s league campaign ended with a victory after an entertaining game against North Ferriby United Reserves at Rotsea Lane, the points ensuring a respectable fifth place i
n the table after a season of much change – both on and off the park.
Starting brightly United knocked the ball around with a lot of pace and purpose with both strikers Alex Gibson and Jimmy Syme very much in the mix.
After 14 minutes a hurried shot across the area by Gibson was tucked in from six yards by defender Paul Taylor at the far side, and as his team kept up their drive the pressure told on 29 minutes as Syme was tripped in the area and the penalty awarded by referee David Musgrave was confidently dispatched by Tom Cooper.
After looking in control United relaxed their grip a bit in midfield and Ferriby took advantage as defenders backed off a challenge and Joe Aldous fired a left foot shot from 15 yards low into the net.
Just before the break Dean Taylor displayed a fine piece of skill near the 18 yards line setting up Cooper whose shot clipped the Ferriby crossbar.
As the second period started keeper Matthew Cox launched a huge clearance downfield and controlling it first time Syme let fly with a rasping drive that just zipped over.
On 53 minutes United edged further ahead after Syme, rummaging in the box, released the ball to Cooper who clipped it in from close range.
The game wandered around without purpose for a while but on 70 minutes United skipper Mark Pratley was adjudged to have tripped an opponent in the area and defender Mally Osindiende pulled one back for the visitors from the spot setting up an interesting last 20 minutes.
However United comfortably defended their lead and their overall performance very much merited the points.
